All these and a further twenty
–five poems have received comment.
Congratulations. These poems needed only a little
tinkering around the edges and can be sent out
again, where appropriate, as they remain unpublished
in any form by us. (Winners of cash prizes still
have the option of publication in some literary
magazines.)
The best chance for improving your work comes from
reading as much modern poetry as you can find in
your library. Ask for the series:
The Best Australian Poetry 2003-4-5-6-7 (UQP) and
The Best Australian Poems 2003-4-5-6-7 (Black Inc.)
Ask for Blue Dog, Heat, Southerly, Meanjin and
anything else suggested by your librarian… or buy
one.
Another tip is: stick to the rules of the
competition and edit your work for typos, omissions
and spelling mistakes. Yes, they matter in the final
countdown.
Most of all, stay enthusiastic.
We enjoyed, as always, the reading of your poems. We
look for innovation and difference in imagery,
language and subject.
Keep writing and reading.
